The Story

When Andy moved to Glasgow, he brought his whole world with him, including Grannie’s sewing machine base. To this day, he is unable to explain exactly why. It lived in his garage for 10 years, then moved to the garden and finally after much soul searching, to the skip prior to his departure to warmer climes. At the last minute he rescued it, and generously passed it on to us here. After much wire wool-ing, oiling, heating and cooling, it was brought back to life. Finished in gloss black, it harks back to its first life in a 1920’s sewing room. The top started life as pew bases in St. Andrews church in Hamilton town centre, just outside Glasgow. The pews, along with the organ and a few balconies were removed just before the church’s conversion to a temple to magnolia and chrome. The large part of the pews now form the cills for another church in Northumberland; these pieces, too short for the large windows, were put aside and now find themselves as the top to a rather fetching side table.
